Supporting the sustainable production of shrimp aquaculture at this year’s Global Shrimp Forum

Utrecht, The Netherlands, 5 – 7 September 2023

WHERE? The Global Shrimp Forum is a unique opportunity to meet and work with representatives of the entire global shrimp value chain. This year’s event gathered some 500 of us – representing farmers, feed companies, technology suppliers, service providers, processors, exporters, importers, wholesalers, retailers and other industry stakeholders.

WHY? As the global shrimp industry grows in production numbers, but struggles with shrimp value in the market, sustainable growth and what that means to the industry is a hot topic. Sustainability is not a quick fix and needs long term strategic thinking and commitment. By engaging across the industry and working together in different parts of the value chain, as an industry we can mitigate risk in some of the most pressing issues facing our industry as well as the broader planet.

HOW? Dsm-firmenich were present at this year’s Forum, as a sponsor, with a booth, as a speaker on the agenda and visible and engaging with participants and industry colleagues.

“Across all discussions, one theme was loud and strong,” said Louise Buttle, Sustell™ Lead for Aqua & Global Key Account Manager at dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health. “Know your footprint, own your footprint and with this, you can improve your footprint and reduce your environmental impact. Sustell™, our intelligent sustainability service is unique in that it focuses on the specific animal production system, whether it be shrimp or salmon.

At the Forum, dsm-firmenich announced they had joined forces with Grupo Almar, one of the largest shrimp producers in the world, for supporting Grupo Almar’s sustainability journey and at the same time, validating the shrimp module for Sustell™ - enabling the wider shrimp production value chain to improve its sustainability.
